K11 Molecular Marché Kiosks

Redesigning the Kiosk Area at K11 Art Mall

Innovative Design Transforms Kiosk Area into a Molecular Marché

The K11 Art Mall in Hong Kong has recently undergone a stunning transformation with the redesign of its kiosk area. Led by AS Design and K11, the project aims to create a unique and vibrant space that resembles the molecular bonding. Inspired by the concept of a "French Marché," the designers have turned this area into a "Molecular Marché," attracting a large crowd and becoming a new iconic gathering spot for the trendy group.

The individual kiosks in the redesigned area are envisioned as molecules, reflecting the art of molecular gastronomy. The original layout of the kiosk area has been deconstructed, restructured, and reapplied to resemble molecular bonding. This innovative design not only integrates the kiosk area but also creates a diversified platform for all the kiosks. The content of the kiosks will be seasonally refreshed, ensuring a constantly evolving and attractive experience for visitors.

The design of the Molecular Marché incorporates various materials, including powder-coated metal, wooden veneer, cement coating, and plants. These elements come together to create a modern and vibrant atmosphere that reflects the energy and vitality of the K11 Art Mall.

The centerpiece of the design is the ceiling and platform. Hexagonal modular pendant lights, resembling molecular structures, provide stylish and weightless lighting while also functioning as space dividers. These pendant lights give the area a futuristic and three-dimensional feel, addressing the common issue of lighting insufficiency found in kiosks. The platform is adorned with blue hexagonal motifs that complement the pendant lights, creating a cohesive visual experience. These motifs also serve as directional signs, guiding customers to explore the leisure, entertainment, and shopping options available in novel ways.

The Molecular Marché design extends beyond the ceiling and platform. Three-dimensional screen panels and casual stools also feature the molecular pattern, further enhancing the modern and vibrant atmosphere. With the use of natural materials like cement, wooden veneer, and plants, these decorations add a touch of vitality to the space.

The project was completed in September 2016 in Hong Kong. Throughout the design process, the team faced the challenge of carrying out the construction without disrupting the daily operations of the existing businesses. However, by incorporating the values of the Artisanal Movement, including imagination, bespoke craftsmanship, heritage, and contemporary elements, the team successfully created a space that reflects K11's commitment to cultivating an artistic atmosphere.

The redesign of the kiosk area at K11 Art Mall has garnered recognition and acclaim. In 2017, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, technical skill, and contribution to quality of life improvements.
